Cedar Vale, Kansas is a rustic picturesque town located in the heartland of America just off of Highway 166 in the western part of Chautauqua County. The town of Cedar Vale is situated in a beautiful valley in the Chautauqua Hills. Cedar Vale was referred to as "The Gem City of the Sunflower State....Cedar Vale is the most enterprising Little City on Earth.." in the book"Dawn of the Twentieth Century 1901". Today Cedar Vale is a farming and ranching community, but is also home to many other businesses which are integral parts of the local economy. Cedar Vale is a town with beautiful old homes, churches and historic downtown buildings, a school with grades from pre-K through high school, lovely parks, swimming pool, and many more amenities. Cedar Vale hosts several events throughout the year including Spring Fling with Barbeque Cook-Off, Rodeo, Craft booths, car show, mud runs, Memorial weekend with Rodeo and Alumni reunions, Labor Day Celebration with parades, rodeo, annual egg toss, dance 5-K fun run, tractor pull, and the annual Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration with soup and chili supper, crafts, and carolers.
With the tangled rugged beauty of the Ozark Plateau beginning in southeast Kansas, most people are surprised to discover the Little Ozarks, where the landscape is full of wooded hills and winding rivers, and includes the towns of Cedar Vale, Sedan and many other southeast Kansas county towns. You are likely to see buffalo roaming the range, as well as working cattle ranches, or a cowboy on horseback along the the dusty roads. It is a rustic area where the Old West has met the New West. Much of the area looks as it did in the 1800's and the early 1900's when cowboys were driving millions of cattle up from Texas. Back then Kansas had two things no other state could offer, grass and railroads. There are beautiful countryside vistas, history filled museums and historic buildings. For the outdoor sportsman there is fishing and hunting. You'll find lots of wildlife, with turkey, quail and deer which are often seen in the countryside.
Cedar Vale, has been one of the best kept secrets in Kansas, but with the new opening of Highway 166 in 1997, it made it a short and pleasant commute to Arkansas City, Winfield, Strother Field, Wichita, Independence, Bartlesville, Ponca City, or Tulsa. Cedar Vale has adequate water for domestic, commercial or industrial use.
Take a look at our opportunities. We believe that there is no such things as strangers, just friends we haven't met yet!!
Delight in your visit to Cedar Vale and Chautauqua County Kansas, slow down, and sit a spell. Savor the sights and sounds of the area and relive a little of the past. There's nothing like it anywhere!!
